From hospital rooms to the open roads, we are grateful things don’t always turn out the way they were ‘supposed’ to.
Living with cystic fibrosis dominated every decision in our lives, but in 2019 EVERYTHING changed. A revolutionary drug hit the market, re-writing every textbook, and looked to change the predicted life expectancy for CFer’s (which was a staggering 37 years old). The new drug, after just one day, allowed air to fill pockets of my scarred lungs in places I had never felt, lifted the elephant on my chest, and I caught my first night of cough-free sleep in 20+ years. I felt reborn.
Just 3 months into my ‘new’ life, a major PLOT TWIST, Covid-19 struck. Our newfound freedom was met with doctor's orders to quarantine - a matter of life and death for those with CF. Lots of fears and some big decisions as Darold would be back on the road to professional fishing again soon. Continuing to stay in hotels or rental homes became a risk we couldn’t afford. Perhaps this was the time to make a move on a dream we always had — we bought an RV! 🚐💨 I had 2 days to learn how to drive/tow before we hit the road. 🤪
Our RV allowed us to travel safely - prioritizing my health and creating a space that accommodated my unique needs. Over 100,000 miles and three years later, every mile holds a story of strength and determination to defy the odds- liberated from the chains of terminal illness.
And, with each sunrise over breathtaking landscapes, we’re reminded of the beauty that exists beyond the confines of hospitals - a blessing we do not take lightly. For us, RVing isn’t just a way to travel; It inspires us to breathe deeper and find joy in the simplest moments. 🥂✨
I mean, we were told our whole lives we’d be planning my funeral at this age, but today we are making plans for my 40th Birthday RV Trip. 🎂🥳
Each of us has a story and by sharing, we learn to celebrate life’s triumphs, big and small. General RV Center wants to give $1000 to someone sharing their story, so be sure to click the link to share yours. After all, expectations and limitations are meant to be shattered, right?
